Texture Meets Form
My sculptures are rooted in the dynamic relationship between humans, nature, identity, and diversity. Working primarily in clay, I create ceramic sculptures as exterior and interior pieces, exploring how texture and form reveal the layered complexities of human experience, societal roles, and our ever-evolving connection to the environment. I am fascinated by how each unique piece interacts with its surroundings, inviting reflection on perception, fragility, and resilience.
My work celebrates strength, humility, and an enduring connection to nature. It is inspired by the rituals that shape and challenge our diverse communities, particularly influenced by my experiences working with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND). These insights fuel my exploration of identity, diversity, and inclusivity.
Through bold textures, vibrant colours, and layered expressions, I examine the delicate balance between community, diversity, integration, creation, and destruction, to encourage contemplation on humanity's impact and the shared future we must nurture together.
Driven by a passion for three-dimensional art, I am committed to spreading the love of clay, and sharing the joy of earth, texture, and form through workshops, demonstrations, and artist talks. I aim to inspire meaningful engagement and foster connections between people, communities, art and nature.
Gwenda Jones' art and design background and a BA (Hons) in Three-Dimensional Design draw inspiration on how each unique sculptural piece interacts with its surroundings. Sculpting the intricate relationship between humans, nature, identity and diversity, she explores how texture and form reveal our multi-faceted layers, societal roles and relationships with our ever-changing habitat and environment. Gwenda's work celebrates strength, humility, connection to nature, enduring spirit and the rituals that shape and, at times, challenge our diverse communities, often observed in her work with special educational needs and disabilities. Through clay, bold textures, colour and layered expressions, she examines the eternal balance between perception, fragility and humanity's impact, the delicate interplay between community, diversity, integration, creation, destruction, and the shared future we must nurture.
