This piece was inspired by Hans Makart's triptych "Modern Amoretti." His original painting was so expressive and ornamental, it’s incredibly beautiful, but its detachment from reality is also unrelatable. “Amoretti’s Knot” was created as a sort of contemporary response-- depicting women in drab attire, in a drab setting, posed romantically and adorned in flowers-- as a way of emphasizing the disconnect between the ideal and reality that is often found in paintings depicting women as subjects.
