Sea Change

Bronze on granite base

h: 85 w: 52 d: 50 (cms).

Sea Change is formed and carved to appear like a ship’s figurehead that has undergone extreme weathering. The title is from Shakespeare's ‘The Tempest’ and Arial’s haunting song that describes how a drowned body undergoes a sea change into 'something rich and strange'. The sculptor observes that people who survive and overcome life's difficulties often become formed into more interesting and resilient characters as a result. This sculpture is intended to weather further - if installed in a garden, it can either be maintained by 3 polishes per year, or be left over a long period to respond to the elements, and to gradually to turn green with a natural verdigris patina.

£17000 (As exhibited.)
