This painting was inspired by a trip down to Cornwall in December - beautiful cold light, short days. My intention was to create atmosphere and feeling through tone and quiet colour, the focus being on mood rather than detail.

I endeavour in my work to capture the fleeting moment, the atmosphere that draws me initially, that feeling of connection to a place. In this painting I wanted to convey the intimacy I have with my own working space - keeping the interior tones low in order to create the feeling of an intimate interior in contrast to the bright Spring day outside the window, the shaft of light quietly connecting the two.
