This piece reflects the quiet intimacy my fiancé and I found in an unexpected ritual, braiding his hair. When we moved to a new city, far from family and familiarity, the task of caring for his hair became something I learned out of love. What began as necessity grew into a tender space of connection. In the slow rhythm of parting and weaving each strand, we made room for conversations that daily life often pushes aside. Those hours became our sanctuary—moments where time softened, and we could speak freely about everything. The act of braiding became a language of its own, a way of holding each other through change, transition, and the quiet forming of a shared life. This work honors that intimacy—the touch, the trust, and the small rituals through which we build a home in one another.
