Clockwork Mouse embodies the whimsical energy of childhood play but stands frozen in time. Its mechanisms are now relics of the movement that once was. Inspired by antique clockwork toys, this piece reflects on the fleeting nature of childhood. Clockwork Mouse is poised as if it is mid-step, capturing the tension between motion and stillness and between the past and present. As a mother, I have witnessed toys transition from objects of wonder to abandoned relics, collecting dust as children outgrow them. This sculpture speaks to that moment of change, at which the hands that once wound up a toy move on, leaving only echoes of laughter and touch behind.

Clockwork Bear stands with quiet determination, a steadfast companion from a childhood now passed. Inspired by antique wind-up toys, this piece explores the weight of memory and how once cherished objects hold the imprint of time. The bear’s textured surface and mechanical details hint at wear, at a life lived, at hands that once held it close but have since moved on. For me, as a mother, this sculpture reflects the bittersweet beauty of raising children. The once-constant presence of favourite toys fades as time progresses, yet their significance remains. ‘Clockwork Bear’ is a reminder of the in-between spaces of motherhood, nurturing, letting go, and the quiet permanence of love, even as the years pass and ordinary objects become treasured artefacts.
