This portrait of Bruna was painted at the Charles. H. Cecil Studios entirely from life, to the scale of life and under natural light using the old masters’ technique of ‘sight-size,’ where the canvas is placed alongside the subject, and both are observed side-by-side from a set distance. This method, famously employed by John Singer Sargent and his contemporaries, has its origins in the practices of Titian, Van Dyck, and Velázquez.
£4000 (As exhibited.)
