Oil on linen board
h: 50 w: 40 d: 1 (cms).
I painted this during the period when my father was living with metastatic cancer. He passed away at the beginning of February this year. I painted this as a way of sitting with his illness and process the way it has affected him. There was a part of me that wondered if I was strange to want to look and paint and image that deeply saddens me. However, I figured out that it was an important process for me to come to realisation and acceptance.

The sitter meets the viewer with a steady, direct gaze. The simple composition and bold colours draw attention to the act of looking, creating a moment of quiet confrontation between subject and viewer.
