colour pencils on polymer paper

This portrait is part of my latest series of works where I explore the perception of who we are and how we present ourselves to the world. I introduce myself as an artist and an outsider as I draw under the shade of a lemon tree. The lemon tree is a symbol of my otherness: a plant from the warm mediterranean transplanted in the temperate north. The techniques and media I use are also a celebration of my past and of my late father’s life. As an amateur architect, my father used to draw detailed plans of houses and building on transparent paper which could then be superimposed. I am using the same method here and instead of building I draw memories on layers of polymer paper to map the complexities of our personalities.
