Statement

Rebecca Ritchie is a contemporary realist painter working in oils. Her work often explores overlooked or everyday objects, inviting viewers to pause, notice, and find resonance in the quiet presence of things that are usually passed by.

Her recent Past and Still series reflects on memory and the passage of time through the lens of childhood artefacts—faded toys, peeling wallpaper, and the suggestive play of light and shadow. Three pieces from this series are currently being exhibited: Witness at the Society of Women Artists’ annual exhibition, The Past Beneath at the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition, and a third work preselected for the Chelsea Art Society’s Summer Exhibition.

Alongside this narrative thread, Rebecca continues to explore more meditative still life compositions—works where mood and light take centre stage. Two such paintings, Remains Of Summer and Golden Onion, are also included in the Society of Women Artists’ exhibition. These works speak to her enduring interest in elevating the quiet poetry of the everyday, capturing the sculptural drama of simple forms through rich contrast and stillness.

Rebecca has exhibited with the Society of Women Artists for several consecutive years, as well as with the Royal West of England Academy, The Royal Cambrian Academy, the Royal Society of Marine Artists, the Chelsea Art Society, the ING Discerning Eye and the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition. She works from her studio in Tunbridge Wells and is represented by galleries in Chelsea and Wadhurst.
