I like to work on surfaces with a history, building patterns and textures with different kinds of paint. Recently I’ve been using discarded iron roofing from agricultural sheds I find in the Donegal landscape and plywood pulled out of a pub near where I live. I respond to rust, ragged edges and holes to make abstract rural and urban landscapes.
Julia has worked as an academic for the last 20 years. She took up painting seriously in 2022 and makes work in Donegal and London.
