Statement

My paintings are predominantly figurative. I usually work loosely and as quickly as possible to capture the freshnes of my response to the subject. My interest is in likenesses, individuality and making a unique record of a sitter. I aim to create interesting, attractive pictures, not and hope to tackle increasingly diverse and difficult characters and themes as my practice develops.

Inspiration is provided by artists who are skilful and sensitive, including Helene Schjerfbeck, Laura Knight, Carmen Mansilla, and those painters and photographers who use their abilities to promote awareness of often overlooked people and environments.

After a bad skin reaction to standard oil paint I have opted to use water mixable oil for colourwork for now, for the texture and practicality.
